A busy week for the team in Sidcup

Good Afternoon, 

We just wanted to share a few updates with you about the Team's activities/actions on the ward this past week. 

The team have been trying to focus on the latest ward priorities set by our ward panel which include Violence against women and girls, shoplifting in the High Street as well as ASB in the High Street which includes the use of e-bikes and e-scooters. 

We have been conducting both high visibility uniformed patrols as well as plain clothes patrols across the ward.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN/GIRLS:

While on patrol officers had cause to stop a male suspected of being in possession of cannabis. His details were checked and he was subsequently found to be wanted for sexual assault and domestic related public order and was duly arrested. 

SHOPLIFTING: 

Officers have been linking in with local businesses to focus on regular and high value shoplifting. Two previously unknown suspects responsible for multiple shoplifting offences amounting to the theft of approximately £1500 worth of stock across the Sidcup area have now been identified and the team are in the process of gathering all the evidence and conducting arrest enquiries to bring them both in to custody as quickly as possible. 

ASB:

Last weekend while on patrol in the High Street two youths were seen in the underground car park on Jenner Close causing ASB, upon stopping to speak with them, they fled but were caught and detained nearby. Both were searched with one being found to be in possession of several bags of cannabis. Their parents were contacted and the youths returned home. The youth found in possession of cannabis was given a formal warning. 

The team are aware of a large group of youths causing ASB in and around Sidcup High Street. We have been working with local businesses and local schools and have managed to identify 5 of the youths responsible. We continue to try and identify the rest of the group. Those who have been identified will receiving a visit from officers at their home addresses. 

OTHER NEWS:

The team became aware of an attempted robbery involving a knife which occurred on Hatherley Rd. CCTV enquiries were conducted in the area the following day where the Team managed to identify a suspect for this offence and he was arrested later that same day. He was also wanted on recall to prison and therefore was returned to prison. 

We teamed up with our neighbouring ward officers to target a particular road on which police were receiving daily reports of drug dealing resulting in one male being dealt with for possession of cocaine and another being arrested for drugs supply. 

We have seized two illegal e-bikes with both riders being reported to the courts for driving offences.

Superintendent Jones joined us for a walk around Sidcup High Street for several hours on Wednesday paying a visit to various businesses, speaking with the local business owners and shop staff about retail crime and other issues affecting them.
